Orinda's history most notably began in 1835, during the Mexican colonization of California.  It was not until 1920 that the town site of Orinda was actually established, yet development did not begin to emerge until after the Caldecott Tunnel opened in 1937.  Upon the completion of the Caldecott Tunnel, the neighboring city of San Francisco became a more convenient and desirable destination.

Today, Orinda is a sought-after family oriented community with its outstanding school system remaining in the top percentile of Bay Area academic ratings.  Orinda's 17,000+ population is spread out amongst the 12.8 square mile radius with its residential neighborhoods well situated amid the natural aesthetic beauty of the tree-studded rolling hills.

The Orinda Country Club rests at the base of its stunning 18 hole golf course and offers an array of activities such as golf, tennis, swimming; complete with its own fitness center and upscale dining experience.  Careful consideration has been given to preserving much of the surrounding area for park land.  Tilden Park, San Pablo Reservoir, Briones Open Space, and the Lafayette Reservoir are all within close proximity.  This wide open space contributes to the diverse animal wild life population and serves as the homeland and breeding grounds for the many different species.

Orinda is conveniently located minutes from downtown Walnut Creek's Regional Center for the Arts, restaurants, shopping, movie theatres, and a whole host of professional organizations.  Heading West through the Caldecott Tunnel on Highway 24 leaving Orinda's semi-rural valley lays an urban oasis of amenities.  The San Francisco International Airport and the Oakland Airport are both handily located less than 20 miles away.  Orinda's close proximity to beautiful San Francisco allows Orinda's residents to incorporate urban living into their suburban lifestyle in one of America's most renowned cities.
